I've been looking at Gap year's down under and there are some fab options out there - be a Jackaroo, diving, teaching, traveling. Also, you don't have to be a student these days to go on a Gap year. I'm looking for some inspiration for the best gap year's out there and wondering if some of you guys could let me know what you did on your year/months out or could offer any tips for what to do or what not to do.
Any thoughts?

I've done a bit of all of that. You don't even have to know what you want to do before you go - just get there, see what's on offer and make it up as you go along!

I can't even say what were the highlights because the whole experience is incredible - but I will recommend getting your scuba qualification (the Great Barrier Reef is one of the best classrooms in the world), taking in some Aboriginal culture, sailing and scaring yourself stupid with your choice of adrenaline activities. Volunteering projects are also a worthwhile way to give something back - I did a bit of ecological field work (read: weeding!)

If you plan to, or have to, work to fund your travels, get an office temping role (you'll need to prove your office skills) or failing that some restaurant/hospitality work.
Bar work isn't much fun in most cities, too many rules and regulations and very rarely will you get any free drinks or tips!
