Hey all
Wow, it's been over a year since I last played any part in this forum! I hope everyone since back then has had good news!
Just to bring things up to speed:
I applied for a 175 Visa around April 2010, as a C# Programmer. At the time of application it was estimated to take about 6 months, and I went a-travelling for up to a year in South America with a round the world ticket allowing me to fly from Chile to Australia when the Visa was granted.
During that time, the whole Visa process was put on hold, radical changes were made, and the guided estimate time for my Visa had gone into Priority 4 (I think) so it suddenly was going to take up to 3 years!
I slowly ran out of my money after nearly 9 months in S. America, and decided to take up a job in Spain after 2 months training back in UK. No more than 3 days after arriving, my Visa was granted! I needed to retake my police checks and medicals as these were preloaded, so after doing this in UK and then sent them off, all was good.
I was then given until May 18th 2012 to enter Australia to validate the Visa. Since I had just started a job in Spain, I decided to give that a go, but after 6 months it really wasn't working out.
Returning back to UK poor, I continued work there, but started a relationship with a Brazilian girl who I met during my travels!
We are now in the process of her applying for a UK Fiance Visa, as we are looking to get married in August.
As I write this, I am currently visiting Melbourne, after arriving last Saturday to validate my Visa! I cam to do some investigation into the city, including expected salaries and the environment itself.
I can confidently say, that its definitely a place I would like to live! Whilst the cost of living is high, the people are great, and the salary excellent, with a great mix of the arts to keep entertained during my free time.
So the question is then this: My fiance is Brazilian, and there seems to be no open tourist Visa option for her to come to Australia. As a holder of a now valid 175 Visa, what options are there for us to both come live in Australia? I am returning back to UK on Saturday as I am tied contractually to my apartment and work, with the former expiring in November. Do I have any way of using my 175 Visa status to bring her over as my wife?
Life's a crazy old thing, but just riding the waves is the best way to reach the shore!
Thanks for your times people, hope this anecdote gives hopes to some people about possibilities of life!
postnote: I've just done some further research - and it seems she could apply for a 309 Visa. I think the biggest issue is proving I am a viable sponsor, since I would not have lived in Australia when we apply. Only yesterday was I offered a strong possibility of work in the 6 figures, but I am not ready to move! Tricky situation
