Osama Bin Laden buried at sea?

Hi All

 

Was Osama Bin Laden a Muslim?  If so, is it customary for a Muslim to be buried at sea, please? 

 

I'm British and I live in the UK but I was born and brought up in Malaysia, which is predominantly a Muslim country.  

 

I am curious about the YK news reports claiming that Bin Laden has been buried at sea because I was under the impression that only the Christian religions encourage burial at sea?   

 

Also, Bin Laden seems to have been living hundreds of miles away from the sea - up near the Pakistan/Afghan border somewhere according to the newspapers.  I am aware that Islam usually requires burial as soon as possible, so why would he be buried at sea instead of near to his home? 

 

I'm asking because, until this morning, I was not aware that Islam favours burial at sea?  I am wondering whether anyone can shed any light on this, please?

Right!  The Press have now answered my question for me!  

 

It seems that Islam does recognise burial at sea if the deceased is on a boat that is a long way offshore.  In that situation, burying the person at sea is the only way to do it within 24 hours.    Muslim clerics are saying that whether or not it was correct to bury Bin Laden's body at sea is doubtful, theologically. 

 

Which is what I wanted to know.    I've got a lot to say about the politics of the whole episode but it is not right for me to discuss the politics on here but I had also wondered whether burial at sea accords with Islamic teachings because I've never heard of a Muslim being buried at sea before.

hi all,

regardless of where is the dead terriorist is he deserved more ,but i think he didnt think of the thousands whom he killed and who did nt deserve to be burned in abuilding or to through them selves from window to avoid fire or to die under the bilding ,,,,,,etc

he dosent deserve that we think of him 

but in spite of everything we can ask god to forgive him.
