I am 30 years old and my partner and I are wanting to move to Australia for at least a year to work and generally eperience the whole lifestyle Australia has to offer.
My partner is 28 and is an NHS band 5 paediatric staff nurse.
I myself come from a construction/ plant operator background, primarily cranes, I am a horizontal Jib Tower crane operator as well as a slinger/ signaller (I believe they are referred to as Dogmen in australia) both of these I have achieved the national vocational qualification level 2 (NVQ- a uk based vocational qualification system) as well as coming with experience and training on rotary telescopic material handlers and 360 degree tracked excavators.
However I am currently studying towards my NVQ level 6 diploma in controlling lifting operations with cranes which equates to the academic equivalent to a batchelors degree, and this covers the entire process of the crane operation from initially dealing with the client enquiry to looking at the job and possible set up points for the operations as well as any constraints then deciding on the crane type, capacity, jib confiuration and lifting accessories required and carrying out a full and detailed lift plan complete with method statement, risk assessment and all subseuent dialogue between the client and myself regarding confirmation of details and then being there on the job as a person responsible for the entire operation using my experience both as a crane operator and slinger(dogman) to deal with any unforseen issues and ensure the safety of the crane, its crew and all other parties involved in the lifting operation.
I am unsure if an equivalent position exists in australia, I assume it most likely does but I have yet to find out, this role has been primarily my main job in one form or another for almost 7 years but due to the nature of work in Northern Ireland for the last 3-4 years i've had to, as previously mentioned turn my hand to driving the cranes, slinging and general plant duties as well as a second part-time job as an articulated lorry(truck) driver for a general road haulage company.
I am aware thare that I will have to carry out my plant training again but I am unsure as to how likely it would be to gain sponsorship, primarily I would like to gain employment as a crane lift planner/ supervisor but am unsure where to look for these jobs whilst in the uk and what visas etc my partner and I would have to go for, if anyone can help at all it would be greatly appreciated,
Many Thanks, Karl.

As you are under 31 years old, you and your partner can both apply for a working holiday visa. This allows you to live and work in Australia for 12 months and can be extended if you meet certain requirements.
Here is a link to DIAC's information about the visa:
http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/
You don't need sponsorship to work on a working holiday visa.
If you are looking to stay for a longer period, and you and your partner meet DIAC's criteria for a de facto couple, it would be best to use your partner's occupation as the nominated occupation, making them the primary applicant and you the secondary applicant.
That's because nursing is on all the skiilled lists - independent skilled, state sponsored, employer nomination scheme, RSMS and the temporary 457 visa. In light of DIAC's ongoing tendency to change its policy and processing priorities with little or no warning, it would be strategically advisable to select nursing as the nominated occupation, because the indications are that nurses will continue to be in demand for quite some time yet.
You would have unrestricted work rights on any of those visas and would not need sponsorship to work in Australia. Your partner would have unrestricted work rights on an independent skilled visa, but would need to be sponsored on the others.
Best regards
Susan
