I am Australian citizen and have held an Australian passport since I was about six months old, thanks to my Australian father (and his convict ancestors).

However, I was born in the UK in 1972, and have only spent about 9 years of my life in Australia. I am currently resident in the UK and am expecting my first child, who will probably be born here.

I would however like to register the baby as an Australian citizen - either so I can move back there with him, and/or in so he has the option to move there later in life.

Is this still possible in the circumstances? Will his place of birth make a difference? Can anyone shed any light?

Hi Anna

The baby will be an Australian citizen by right, as you are, so if you register his birth with the Australian HIgh Commission in London, you can then apply for an Australian passport for him.

Hope that helps and please don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of any further assistance,

Best regards
Susan
That's great, thanks Susan for the prompt reply. How easy!

Thanks
PS I assume he can also be a UK citizen?
How many passports can one get away with these days?
A big public congratulations to Anna x
