Hello and welcome to the Embrace Australia forums! It would be really helpful for all new members and even those oldies who have been on here for while, to say a little bit about themselves, where they are going and why. Perhaps you can even tell us whereabouts in the visa process you are?

We look forward to seeing your posts on the site - if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask, that's what we're here for!

Hey,

I'll start this off then shall I :-)

I'm a 32 male, C# .Net professional programmer, based in Norwich, UK. I'm planning to travel the world, starting in just over 3 months. My trip takes me to South America first, where I have 12 months valid plane ticket to then fly me to Sydney from Santiago. I am therefore in the process of applying for an Australian 157 Visa so I can live and work in Australia (currently planning in Brisbane) as a freelance C# programmer. I'm hoping Australia will be a second home for me, where I can settle, but use it also as a base platform to explore the Eastern side of the world.

Living in the UK all my life, with nearly all of that in Norwich, I am of course very excited to be doing this. My friends all say I look like a surfer dude, and my name is close enough to being aussie as you can get "Sky Rumsey" (just imagine it as Ramsey though!).

Currently, I applied to the ACS on the 15th January 2010, and the application is still "In Process". I took my IELTS (to gain the extra 10 points I require to make the 120 pass mark) on the 6th March, and the results for that should be available on the 20th which I hope will be around the same time my ACS results come through. I then will make my application to the DIAC immediately, and hope I can get my medical records done (as I understand you have to wait until they recommend you a practitioner) before I go (otherwise it's travels plans delayed!).

Just to say, this site has been excellent for me, and many thanks to Susan for her replies so far!

All the best everyone!

Sky

Hi Zaman - wrong thread mate, try the migration threads. To be honest, I wouldn't be able to give you an answer, this is why:

Many thanks to Sky for kicking this thread off! I guess I should have told you a little about myself too. I'm a writer/journalist who came to Embrace Australia in July of 2009. Since then I've been responsible for doing the news reports and many of the features on the site as well as adding new content and updating the site. If you spot any errors or have any suggestions - I'm the one you should be contacting!

I'm not a migration agent and have never worked in the migration industry, so all my knowledge of Australian visas and the migration procedure is just information I've picked up whilst researching for content and stories.

I've never been to Australia and that remains my ambition. My husband however has lived in worked in Australia for a while and we do regularly correspond with Australian friends.

I love working for this site and am thrilled to be a part of this community. There is nothing better than reading about members who have had their visas granted at long last.

So that's me!

January 2010: Job verification made by OZ Consulate in Dubai: Called up my Manager and asked him about my job and position and how many years I've been working in Dubai.

After that...no news !

Australia is a beautiful land. I had been there last year and I found the place very peaceful and environment friendly. People were very generous and I never faced any racist issues anywhere in Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne or Adelaide. There is no traffic problems like in Dubai. I loved the place very much and the climate is also very nice and comfortable which prompted me to migrate.

Please pray for me that I get my visa soon.

Cheers,
Tony.
