It's been all over the new on the UK, that South Australia is looking for people to do really cool jobs. I just have no idea how to go about it?

I know I'd need a working holiday visa, but from there i don't know what jobs are available.
Some of the news sites say that you can get everything payed for except the flights, is this true?

I think I'm eligible, being 20, a student and with no one dependant on me. I hold a valid UK passport.

Any help would be appreciated?!

Thanks

Hi Michael,

I agree its all a bit confusing. I would say firstly that you are very unlikely to find a situation in Oz that pays for everything - and the flights are likely to be the most expensive of all ! I do know that STA are running a deal whereby you can get your visa paid for if you are one of the first to apply but to be honest thats the least expensive bit.

I'd get a copy of the magazine thats around - think its called Australia Magazine - as they often have info on working holidays. Alternatively, if you go to a forum like Poms In Oz, you'll find plenty of advice from people who have gone to Australia on a working holiday visa before,

Best of luck
HI MIchael

It's not at all difficult and could be the adventure of a lifetime for you!

The SA Govt recommends that firstly, you should register with an agency called Work In SA. This agency specialises in backpackers and will give you an idea of many of the types of jobs that are available. The conditions of each job vary. Some pay for accommodation, food and/or transport to and from work, some don't. Work in SA is currently running a promotion where the first 100 people to find a job and book a flight receive a free working holiday visa. But don't get too excited about that, because working visas only cost AU$235 anyway.

Remember also that Working Holiday Visas are relevant for anywere in Australia, not just SA, and you can work in any job at all, as long as you are not with the same employer for more than 6 months.

To apply for a working holiday visa, first you need to find out if you qualify - here's DIAC's information about them: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/ . You can arrange one for up to 12 months before you use it. It's possible to extend your WHV for another 12 months, but that's probably outside the scope of this response!

Just one thing, migration forums are a great source of information, but if you are going to make any big decisions based solely on what you read on forums, unless the advice is from a reputable professional advisor, make sure you verify it independently before acting on it.

Best regards
Susan
