Hi Chandima

Congratulations on your move to Australia, and welcome!

In Australia, Playgroup involves children from 0 - 5 years.

Here is a link to Playgroup Australia's website. http://www.playgroupaustralia.com.au/

It has a lot of information that I hope will be useful to you.

My son is now 24 years old, but when I looked at the Playgroup website I felt nostalgic and wished I could have those childhood years with him all over again - this is a very special time in your life, and in your child's and I wish you both every happiness in your new life.

Bet regards
Susan

Hi ladies

Just to clarify, I've reproduced the information I posted on the forum, in italics below.

As you can see, private schools in Australia can be religious or non-religious and include Catholic schools, Anglican schools, Christian colleges, Islamic schools, other religious schools, grammar schools and non-church schools.

There are links to various websites that will provide more info, in my post on the forum.

Best regards
S

The Australian version of mother and toddler groups is called "Playgroup". Here'a a link to Playgroup NSW.

The first step in the Australian school system is Pre-school. Preschools can be government or community run.

For school aged children (6-17 years), our school system consists of:

Public schools (unlike the UK's public schools, these are primarily government funded)
Catholic schools and
Independent schools (which includes for example Anglican schools, Christian colleges, Islamic schools, other religious schools, grammar schools and non-church schools).

I hope the links above are useful - if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Ah that's lovely that she's so excited Hestie! I've put a discussion up about schools in australia as I want to know as much as possible before we go!

The oldest is very excited and can't wait to move, my daughter will miss her friends that she had since grade R.. I have a friend in QLD and she says not to worry, not even about AD/HD becuase most of the schools are good and put in extra work for the immigrants.

Hi Hestie! My kids are still in primary so I guess it would be easier for me to move them. How do your kids feel about moving to Australia?
Hestie Comment by Hestie on September 17, 2009 at 10:58am
Planning on moving to Australia . We have a 13yr old son and 12yr old daughter. Would love to know how the kids adapt to the new school/life style.
